What to Look For on a Drink Mix Ingredient List
Share
A drink mix label should not feel like a puzzle. A few simple questions can tell you what a formula is built around and what has been added along the way.
Start with the first ingredients
Ingredients are listed in descending order by weight, so the beginning of the list tells you what makes up most of the formula. That is why Coco Blue starts with evaporated coconut water powder.
What are carrier and bulking ingredients?
Some powdered mixes use ingredients such as maltodextrin to help carry flavors or colors, improve flow, or add bulk. Those ingredients are not automatically a reason to reject a product, but they are worth noticing when you are trying to understand a short formula.
What Coco Blue uses instead
Coco Blue uses pure evaporated coconut water powder without maltodextrin or fillers. The rest of the list is organic lemon juice powder, organic lime juice powder, organic blue spirulina, and sea salt.
Ask a few simple questions
- Can I recognize the main ingredients?
- Are the ingredients clearly named?
- Is there added sugar, artificial color, or a long list of extras?
- Does the product explain what each ingredient is doing?
Keep the label readable
Our view is simple: you should be able to read the pouch once and understand the formula. Five ingredients, no added sugar, and no artificial colors, fillers, preservatives, or stevia.
